There are a lot of mites found all over the world and many of them can cause problems to you. Most people only know them by the name of 'mites' but there are different kinds of mites such as this annoying little creature called Sarcoptes scabiei or the itch mite.

The itch mite burrows into the skin and causes scabies. They can be found in all parts of the world it can infect humans as well as animals. They can survive for only a few days off the body and cannot jump or fly.

What is scabies?

Scabies is a skin infection caused by Sarcoptes scaiei or itch mite. Scabies can spread through direct contact with an infected person. Scabies can be spread from the time a person acquires the mites until 24 hours after treatment begins.


Symptom caused by scabies is a rash with a severe itching and it mostly occurs at night to ruin your sleep. Scabies in children, the rash is most likely to pop on the head, palms, soles of the feet, neck, or between the fingers. The mite burrow consists of a short, wavy, dirty line on the skin.

Incubation period

Depending on the person if he/she have been infected before it could take up to Two weeks to two months.

Prevention and control

If your child has been infected temporarily exclude the child from other children to avoid spreading.

Treat the infected child with medications that work effectively against those pesky mites.

Wash all items your children own with hot water and dry it on hot cycle.

Place difficult to wash items in tightly closed plastic bags for four days.

Lastly is to vacuum any carpet or upholstered furniture thoroughly.

Better safe than sorry. You wouldn't want that itchy feeling when you are about to sleep and it is a must to do your daily cleaning of the house it wouldn't take so much of your time just your regular vacuum and washing used items thoroughly. Lastly proper bathing/showering clean every nook and cranny of your body to remove such pest that made your skin as their home.
