Your kidney has a very important role in your body. The kidney filters the wastes and excess fluids from your blood, which are then flush out in your urine.

What is chronic kidney disease?

It is the gradual loss of kidney function and if chronic kidney disease reaches an advanced stage, dangerous levels of fluid, electrolytes and wastes can build up inside your body.

Signs and symptoms of chronic kidney disease:

Usually, chronic kidney disease won't cause any kind of symptoms until it reaches an advanced stage.

Chronic kidney disease on the early stage

On the early stage of chronic kidney disease, it doesn't tend to be any symptoms because of the body usually able to cope with a significant reduction in kidney function.

You will know you have a kidney disease after a routine test, such as a blood or urine test, detects a possible problem.

If you are diagnosed with an early stage CKD you may only need to take medications, regular test to monitor it which help stop it becoming more advanced.

Advanced stages of chronic kidney disease

* You have a feeling of being sick

* Getting tired or tiredness

* Blood can be seen in your urine

* Sudden weight loss and you have poor appetite

* You will experience shortness of breath

* Have a difficulty in sleeping or insomnia

* Itchy skin

* Muscle cramps

* Headaches

* Swollen ankles, feet or hands as a result of a water retention  also known as oedema

* Sudden increased need to pee and usually occurs at night

* Erectile dysfunction in men

At this stage, it is known as kidney failure and may eventually need to be treated with dialysis or even a kidney transplant.

It is good to have your regular check-up and if you experience these symptoms you may want to go to your local doctor.
