Ampalaya is very bitter and most people ignore it or just don't buy it but there are also people who love's its bitter taste as well as its many health benefits. There are various dishes that you can try with ampalaya but first, we will tackle about its many health benefits that many people use it for.

They are in use since a very long time in Hindu medicine. Ampalaya or Momordica charantia/bitter melon has long been used in various Asian and African herbal medicine systems. In India, they use the different parts of ampalaya as a treatment for various ailments such as diabetes, cough, respiratory disease, skin disease, wounds, ulcers, gout, rheumatism and used as stomachic, laxative, antibilious, emetic, and anthelmintic agent.

Since in early ages bitter melon has a number of uses including prevention of cancer, treatment of diabetes, fever, HIV, AIDS, and infections.

While it has shown some potential clinical activity in laboratory experiments, "further studies are required to recommend its use".

Adverse effects

In medicine, an adverse effect is an undesired harmful effect resulting from a medication or other intervention such as surgery.

Reported side effects include diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, hypoglycemia, urinary incontinence, and chest pain. Symptoms are generally mild, do not require treatment, and resolve with rest.

Ginisang Ampalaya with Egg


* Cooking oil
* Gather condiments such as salt and pepper for adjusting taste.
* 2 eggs that are beaten
* 1 Onion sliced
* Minced Garlic at least 1 tablespoon
* 1 piece ampalaya (Cut it into thin slices and remember to remove the seeds)


* Get your ampalaya and wash it thoroughly then put it in a bowl next add some salt and lukewarm water into the bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Then drain the water.
* Get a cheesecloth then dab the ampalaya to absorb its excess moisture then set it aside.
* Get a pan and saute the garlic then follow it by onions until the garlic turns golden brown and the onions become translucent.
* Next you can now add the ampalaya and cook it for about 3 minutes after that pour the beaten eggs over the mixture of garlic, onion, and ampalaya.
* Let the egg cook until it is partially done, then stir the mixture until the bitter melon has softened and is fully cooked.
* Next season it with salt and pepper.
* Now your dish is done and you can now serve it with the smile.
